5 Interview Questions You Should Always Ask in Freight Forwarding
Interviewing for a freight forwarding role? Whether you're applying for operations, account management, or sales, the interview isn’t just about answering questions — it’s also your opportunity to assess if the company and the role are the right fit for you.
We often coach candidates to go into interviews with prepared questions — not just to look engaged, but to uncover the stuff that really matters: leadership, team culture, stability, and growth.
Here are 5 questions we always recommend:
1. How do you support your team during peak periods or stressful situations?
Freight is fast-paced. Asking this shows you're realistic about pressure and want to understand what kind of backup or leadership you’ll get when things get hectic.
2. What does success look like in this role after 3, 6, and 12 months?
This helps you understand if expectations are realistic — and whether there’s a clear plan for your onboarding and performance. It also helps you assess whether the business is structured or reactive.
3. How often have you hired for this position in the last two years?
High turnover can be a red flag. This question gives insight into team stability and whether you're stepping into a long-term opportunity or a revolving door.
4. Can you describe the career progression path from this role?
Even if you’re not chasing a promotion right away, it’s smart to know what’s possible. Great companies will have a clear development pathway and be proud to talk about it.
5. How would your team describe the leadership style here?
You’ll likely learn more from this than the company’s values page. It reveals whether leadership is supportive, hands-off, micromanaging, or actually involved in people development.
Final Thought
These questions aren’t just for show — they open up real conversations and help you walk away from an interview knowing if this is a team you want to join.
There’s no one-size-fits-all in freight. But asking smart questions means you’re one step closer to finding the right fit.
